Servicing of fire and emergency safety equipment is a mandatory requirement and a requirement of BS5266 that this is carried out by a competent person.
This depends upon a number of factors including the type of premises you have, and how the premises are used. A Fire Risk Assessment is often the way to determine if emergency lighting is required or not.
